A foreign authority may request an apostilled death certificate for an estate, pension, insurance, or civil-record procedure. Start with its written requirements: the record version, issue date, language, and any required translation. I assist with the U.S. administrative process, not inheritance or benefits advice.
Obtain the official record
Use a certificate from the responsible vital-records authority. An obituary, funeral-home letter, or ordinary photocopy is not a replacement. Access to a death record, particularly confidential medical information, is controlled by the issuing authority. Obtain the necessary official copy yourself; record retrieval is not included in my service.
For NYC-issued death certificates, request a Letter of Exemplification for apostille use. The NYC record and letter require New York County Clerk authentication before the state apostille. Qualifying records issued directly by the New York State Department of Health follow a different route. Records from another state must follow that state’s process.
Send only what is needed
Tell me the issuing office, destination country, and recipient’s instructions. Do not include confidential medical details that the recipient has not requested. Keep official attachments and seals intact. A secure copy allows preliminary review; wait for instructions before mailing the physical certificate.
Timing and delivery
Rush handling is considered only after the complete document is ready and every required government step can take place in Manhattan. Ordering a new record, another state’s processing, and mail transit do not fit that window. Standard timing is confirmed for the actual route.
See apostille service options or Free Community Notary for assistance eligibility. Request document review or contact me in English or Russian.
