Power of attorney for matters abroad — notarization in Manhattan

Living in New York while a property sale, vehicle transfer, or other matter needs attention in another country? A power of attorney can authorize a representative to act for you, subject to the destination country’s requirements.

I notarize your signature during a Manhattan visit and arrange a New York apostille for an eligible document. Your attorney or authorized notary in the destination country prepares the power of attorney. I do not draft powers of attorney or provide legal advice. Work directly with Sergei Crawford in English or Russian.

Example total: $302 for standard processing or $402 for rush processing. This example covers one document, one signer, one acknowledgment, and one Manhattan visit. See the breakdown below. International delivery costs extra.

Tell me the destination country, document language, deadline, and whether the signer is in Manhattan. Do not attach documents or identification to a text message or ordinary email.

What your representative needs to do abroad

Sell a home or other real estate

You want a representative to handle a property sale in another country. Your professional in that country prepares the wording and determines the powers granted. I notarize your signature in Manhattan and arrange the apostille when this route meets the recipient’s requirements.

Sell or transfer a vehicle

The vehicle is overseas while its owner is in Manhattan. Obtain the document and signing requirements from your professional in the destination country, then arrange a Manhattan appointment with me for signature notarization and apostille processing.

Handle other matters through a representative

For a bank matter, document collection, or another task abroad, your professional or receiving organization determines the required wording and formalities. My service is signature notarization and apostille assistance, not drafting the powers granted or representing you abroad.

How it works

  1. Have the document and instructions prepared. Your attorney, notary, or receiving organization abroad determines the wording, powers granted, witnesses, required notarial act, translation, and acceptable original. I do not draft the document or decide whether it will achieve your legal purpose.
  2. Confirm the procedure and price. Tell me the destination country, language, document and signer count, Manhattan meeting address, and deadline. If a copy is needed for review, use Secure Document Upload. My review concerns the notarial procedure and processing route, not the legal sufficiency of the document.
  3. Meet in Manhattan. I travel to an agreed home, office, hotel, or other suitable location. The signer appears in person with the completed paper document, acceptable current identification, and any required witnesses. Follow the agreed instructions about when to sign.
  4. Receive the apostilled document. After notarization, I arrange the required County Clerk authentication and submission to the New York Department of State. We agree on the return method and any separate expenses before work begins.

Standard and rush prices

Example: one document and one signerStandardRush
Apostille assistance$250$350
Separate Manhattan notary visit$50$50
One acknowledgment for one signer$2$2
Example total$302$402

Standard: an estimated 2–4 weeks after receipt of the complete package for eligible documents, including the agreed delivery. This is a planning estimate, not a guaranteed deadline. The apostille price includes government fees, necessary postal shipments for the agreed route, and USPS Priority Mail return delivery within the United States.

Rush: same-day or next-business-day completion may be available for a ready document whose entire required government-office route is in Manhattan. Availability is confirmed after reviewing the document, handover time, and government-office availability. The apostille price includes government fees, personal submission and collection, and hand-delivery of the completed document in Manhattan.

An additional document submitted together through the same route adds $50 for apostille assistance. Additional notarial acts and signers follow the published fee schedule. International delivery, translation, and separately approved additional expenses are not included in the example. Crawford Notary does not provide translation services.

I confirm the services and price before work begins. A Square notary appointment does not reserve apostille processing or a rush deadline.

Documents in another language

Tell me the document’s language when you contact me. Availability is confirmed after review of the document and notarial certificate. I communicate directly with the signer in English or Russian; a document in another language does not mean that appointments are offered in that language.

Notarization does not certify the translation or the legal content of the power of attorney. Ask the overseas recipient to confirm the document and notarial requirements, including any translation needed for the certificate or apostille.

Arranging this for someone in Manhattan

A relative or representative abroad may make the initial inquiry and help coordinate the appointment. For this service, the signer meets me in person in Manhattan. The signer’s voluntary participation, identification, and direct communication with the notary remain necessary.

Common questions

Will you prepare the power of attorney?

No. Obtain the completed document and instructions from an authorized professional in the destination country. I perform the New York notarial act and provide administrative apostille assistance.

Must every foreign-use power of attorney be notarized on paper?

This service uses an in-person appointment and a paper document. Electronic notarization is considered separately, depending on the document, applicable rules, and recipient’s requirements. Acceptance abroad of an electronic document or a certified paper copy cannot be promised in advance.

Does an apostille guarantee acceptance abroad?

No. It authenticates the origin of the official certification, not the document’s contents, the powers granted, or suitability for a transaction. The apostille route must apply to documents from the United States in the destination country. Confirm the recipient’s requirements first. Crawford Notary does not provide consular legalization.

Can I book notarization without the apostille?

Yes. A separate Manhattan mobile appointment costs $50 plus applicable statutory notarial fees.

Uploading does not confirm an order or reserve a rush deadline. Wait for confirmation before proceeding.

Crawford Notary is not a law firm and does not provide legal advice, document preparation, or translation services.
