Jurat

A jurat is used for a statement made under oath or affirmation. The signer appears before the notary, swears or affirms that the statement is true, and signs as the certificate requires.

What happens

  1. I review the jurat wording and identify the signer.
  2. I administer an oath or affirmation.
  3. The signer signs in the required manner.
  4. I complete the jurat certificate.

Do not sign early when the jurat requires the signature to be made in the notary’s presence.

My certificate confirms that the required procedure occurred. It does not mean that I independently investigated the statement or guarantee that every fact is true.
