A foreign recipient may ask for a sworn statement about a fact, a single-status affidavit for marriage, or a parent’s consent to a child’s travel. These are not interchangeable documents. Obtain the required form or wording from the recipient or a qualified lawyer before arranging the signing.
A personal statement is not a government record
A statement that you are unmarried is your declaration. Notarizing it and obtaining an apostille does not turn it into a government-issued certificate of no marriage. Ask whether the recipient wants a personal affidavit, an official record search, or another specific document.
Likewise, an apostilled travel consent does not itself establish custody rights or override an airline’s or border authority’s requirements. I do not select the legal form or determine who must consent.
Match the notarial act to the instructions
A sworn statement generally involves an oath or affirmation and the applicable jurat procedure. Other documents may call for an acknowledgment. The signer or the receiving party must specify the required act; I cannot choose it as legal advice.
For eligible New York notarized documents, the apostille route ordinarily includes the appropriate County Clerk certification, followed by the New York Department of State. The apostille verifies the official signature or certification, not the factual accuracy of your statement.
Related preparation guides: affidavits and sworn statements and child travel consent.
Share the requirements before the appointment
Upload a copy securely with the destination country, recipient’s instructions, and deadline. Do not send document attachments by ordinary email or SMS. I provide apostille assistance in English and Russian, with rush handling only when the complete route is eligible.
Free Community Notary covers qualifying requests under neutral eligibility rules. Contact me to coordinate signing and submission.
