Apostille for a power of attorney

If you need someone to act for you abroad, the receiving organization or a qualified lawyer should provide or approve the power of attorney. I can assist with eligible notarization and apostille processing. I do not draft the authority you grant, select clauses, or advise whether the document will achieve your purpose.

Check the signing requirements first

Before the appointment, confirm the required wording, language, notarial act, witnesses, and translation arrangements. Do not assume a familiar U.S. form will work abroad. A Russian-language document does not automatically follow Russian consular rules simply because it is signed in New York.

Bring the complete document and follow the instructions for the particular notarial act. An acknowledgment and a jurat involve different procedures. See the power of attorney notarization guide before arranging the signing.

From notarization to apostille

For an eligible New York notarized document, the usual route includes authentication of the notary’s signature by the appropriate County Clerk, then the New York Department of State apostille. A foreign recipient may specify an original paper document; remote notarization and a printed electronic record should not be assumed acceptable without checking the required format.

The apostille authenticates the relevant official signature or certification. It does not validate the scope of the power, establish ownership, or guarantee acceptance by a bank, registry, or court abroad.

If the signer is in Manhattan and the document authorizes a property sale or other actions in another country, see power of attorney notarization for use abroad. The service page covers the visit, standard and rush apostille options, and the full price. Your lawyer or notary in the destination country prepares the document.

Review the route before booking

Use Secure Document Upload for a preliminary copy, and tell me the destination country and deadline. Do not send identification unless requested. An upload does not book a signing or reserve rush processing.

Apostille service options explain standard mail handling and conditional Manhattan rush availability. Notarial acts are separate from paid apostille packages; qualifying Free Community Notary requests receive the program’s fee waivers. Contact me to coordinate the next step.
